Last weekend I was lucky enough to be able to carve out some much needed 'me' time and head out of the city leaving Karl the Fog behind and into the wonderful Sonoma County countryside. For many years I have wanted to do a Yoga Retreat but for various reasons haven't been able to pull things together in time to participate in one, But this year I set it as my new years resolution to make sure I attended one AND I am beyond happy that I did!
Lindsay Foreman is a renowned Yoga teacher in the Bay Area teaching sold out classes at Yoga Flow & Equinox in San Francisco. Every year Lindsay holds a California summer retreat near Occidental on The Lotus Feed Farm.
This farm is not like any I remember growing up in the Devonshire countryside. This is Anthropologie gone farming! The farm is run by Jenay Martin & her wife and they are the ultimate power couple when it comes to 'Seed to Service' dining. The food we ate on the retreat was some of the best food I have eaten in a long time. Wholesome, plant-based food grown on the land we were staying on which was the perfect compliment to our 'Elements' inspired yoga classes led by Lindsay.
I stayed in the coziest Glamping - Luxury Bell tent and some of the other attendees stayed in beautiful Yurts with their own bathtubs!
We performed yoga indoors in a Bindu Yoga yurt which was lightly heated in the evenings by a fireplace and also on an outdoor terrace overlooking the 108 acres of land the farm is built on.
I knew I would come away feeling pretty good after attending a Yoga retreat but I never expected to feel such a powerful emotional shift as what I felt after this retreat. Lindsay created a welcoming & safe environment from our first group circle which enabled us all to open our hearts and bare our souls to the experience over the 3 days.
If you haven't attended a Yoga retreat before then I encourage you to try one. The retreat is about Yoga, but also so much more. You learn a lot about yourself in a short period of time and have the opportunity to meet amazing people from all walks of life. I look forward to attending my next retreat post baby when I am sure my body and soul will need it even more.
